Sometimes Laughter is the Best Medicine for Patients

Dave Soltau - April 19, 2021 - 0 comments

We all have heard that ‘laughter is the best medicine’ and in nursing circles, it’s absolutely true. Humor in the ER is important for nurses and medical professionals. My ability to laugh WITH patients about their injury helped them to overcome their fears and get them to relax more about their circumstances. And 9 times out of 10 they liked me more.

Instead of dwelling on the fact that the patient tripped over a rock and banged their head on the garbage can, I often created fantastic stories for patients about adventurous pursuits that made them laugh about things. As long as the patient didn’t suffer further injuries like a stroke or a seizure, I felt that making my patient smile was a useful tool to use in the ER.

You too can remember to practice kind-hearted humor in the ER and make laughter your medicine of choice! I include more humor in my courses at the Health & Wealth Academy. Learn my tools and techniques for building wealth in the home healthcare business.
