This new week brings a dose of reality to nurses everywhere. Many of you, like me, may have gotten into nursing to help people, to give, to offer help, to service people. My mother and grandmother were both nurses, and they drilled some of that care for others into me to also become a nurse.
But that empathetic caring personality may get squashed in today’s modern hospitals. The pace is so fast, the doctors and nurses do not really have time for the soft stuff, and everyone expects new nurses to jump in to get the work done. And though it feels contrary to your training, older nurses may not welcome your sensitive, caring side.
Do you have a good preceptor who teaches you well? Do you have a mentor that can help you, while being patient for you to get up to speed?
It’s a tough nursing world out there, and my advice today is for both veteran nurses and new nurses or nursing students. Watch the clip below, jump into the comments and let me know of your current stories! Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel.
